rats along his back

It’s another week where I have hardly anything to show yall.

I’ve mostly been working on the Marvel art project, which I still can’t show yall anything on because I haven’t uploaded any of it. I’m getting the individual pieces like 98% done then when I put them all together I’ll be finishing them off, which is why I haven’t uploaded anything.
My goal is 24 characters, so far I have 19: Iron Man, Thor, Cap, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Hulk, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Black Panther, Spider-man, Captain Marvel, Dr Strange, Falcon, Wasp/Antman, Shang-Chi, Loki, Star Lord, Gamora, and Rocket/Groot.
I have Shuri and Bucky in progress so that puts me at 21. I still need to do Drax (Although I was thinking of leaving him off and if anybody asks, saying he’s invisible). Then for the last 2 I’m thinking Yelena and Peggy as Captain Carter. Originally I was going to include Rhodey but after drawing Iron Man’s armor I’m not doing armor again LOL. So I replaced him with Peggy.

So I should be done with the project by next week and I can show yall.

In other project news…

Utena!
Finally some progress on Utena but no photos – Chase finished painted all my 3d printed pieces yesterday so tonight I’ll be finishing up the trim that attaches to the shoulder pieces and getting velcro and all that attached. Hoping I can take some photos next weekend and be done (like, just photos in my sewing room with my iphone, no photoshoot yet. My plan is for when it warms up, take it out to the same park as my first utena photoshoot)

Dapper Leia:
Remember last week me talking about how I needed to do a mock-up of the top from that vintage pattern because it was weird?

Well, I did:

It’s all just pinned together there, darts pinned in.
So this weekend I started actually sewing it together, and as I expected the weird under-arm gusset thing was… weird.

I just couldn’t wrap my head around it. I tried. I followed the directions but at one point I stopped and just sat there staring at it like… why am I trying to do this. What does it matter? Maybe at another point in my life I would’ve pushed through and made myself figure it out, but I just don’t have the bandwidth.

So I went back to my patterns and found another vintage pattern, this one just for a top. And I switched to that.

Mock-up of the other pattern. Nice thing was it was already cut. So i didn’t feel bad about just using the pattern without making a copy first. It looks like it’ll fit me with just a few tweaks – it’s a big small through the waist and too big through the shoulders/upper chest, so I’ll just adjust for that. Also the originally was straight across the bottom but too long (ended up around the hips). I played around with the idea of doing a pointed front (as seen in the mock-up above), but I think I’m just going to do a straight waist seam right at the natural waist, which means I need to take about 2.5 – 3 in off the bottom edge of the pattern when i switch to the real fabric.

Also the pattern calls for gathering the shoulder seam, which I will do in the actual version but didn’t do in the mockup. I don’t think it’s going to change the fit of the top through the shoulders that much but I’m planning for it in case it does. Thankfully I have a ton of the white satin left from the skirt so if I did need to recut any of the bodice pieces, I can.

So that’s where i am at with that. Its a MUCH simpler pattern that the previous one.

Not much else to report on this week. Saturday I went over to my parents’ to help my mom with some of the costumes she’s working on for a play. Then that night Ash came over and hung out and showed us her Disney pics.

Last week I had to dig around for my old iphone. When I upgraded in 2019, I decided to keep my previous iphone; it’s trade-in value was only like $50 or something so I decided to just keep it and use it as an ipod. I got my entire music library added to it and planned to use it in my sewing room. Well guess what I used it maybe twice and never again. So when my aunt mentioned getting Kevin his own iphone, I remembered that one and offered it to them. So I had to go on a quest to find that phone because I knew I’d seen it recently but couldn’t remember where.

Well the first one I found was:

AN IPHONE FOR ANTS
I had to go back through years of mirror selfies to figure out how old this phone is. Finally found it in photos from 2011. geez.

But anyway thats all I got for this week.
